Saw 21 over the weekend; had read the book and thought it was great but the movie was a disappointment. Probably because it was more Hollywood than Vegas, more Blue Crush than Rounders, with an unnecessary and heavy handed morality lesson in the mix. Would have liked it better if it had stayed closer to the true story and not swapped the Asian lead for a milqetoasty white guy and made up a love interest for him, but I guess that’s what you have to do to sell the film to a general audience. Spacey was great in Usual Suspects but his MIT prof character was too over the top in this movie tro be believable. If you’ve never heard of counting cards, you might find this movie entertaining.
