Gang Leader for a Day

I read about Sudhir in Freakonomics; he is a University of Chicago sociologist who hung out with the leader of crack dealing gang in the projects, getting a much more realistic insight into the workings of the community than he would have had studying it from afar. One of the surprises for me reading it was how convinced the gang members were that crack dealing was the best work they could aspire to where a pretty straightforward (but innovative) economic analysis proved otherwise.
