Marley & Me : Life and Love with the World’s Worst Dog
A tale, some wags would say, about bad owners. Despite an inherited predisposition to mayhem, I think he could have been trained out of it. If you’ve seen Uncle Matty’s video or seen Cesar ‘the dog whisperer’ work his magic on tv I think you’ll agree with me. But of course the story would be a lot less entertaining if they had been able to train Marley to behave better. And no book. Unless he was really well behaved and then it would be a story of redemption. Is this a new trend - ‘bad dogs and the owners that love them’?
This was one of the few books I brought home that my wife also read cover to cover. And boy picked it up and started reading it. We found many parallels with our own dog-owning experience; our first lab’s name was Marley before we renamed her to Lucky (which turned out to be an unfortunate choice). And our current lab, in puppyhood, has many of the mischievious qualities of the star of this book, but we’re working hard to train him right.
